We are not people who put everything up the day after Christmas. The 12 days of Christmas actually begin on Christmas Day and continue through Epiphany, January 6. It was a shock for my Puerto Rican husband to see everything stop so abruptly here the day after Christmas as they put more importance on the coming of the three kings, or "Los Tres Reyes Magos." The three kings deliver gifts to children on the night of January 5th if the children have left grass for the king's camels. So we will celebrate the coming of the three kings here or magi, which actually makes a lot more sense to me than Santa Claus!
In honor of the 12 days of Christmas, I thought I would share some glassware my mother gave me last year. These are by Indiana Glass. and there is a different glass for each day. The kids love these and all have a favorite.

Anita, what special glasses! I like celebrating the twelve days of Christmas, too -- and when we lived in south Louisiana, the festivities continued after Jan. 6th, throughout the Mardi Gras season. The placesettings look great! I love the warm colors, especially the golds that set off the glasses so nicely!

ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I have been a fan of the 12 days of Christmas ever since my mom and I made a felt hanging depicting them! That was back in 1974. I love your place mats and settings. I used to do fun things like that.....now that the "first litter" is older, I've slacked off. Thanks for reminding me to step it up! I'm sure your beautiful home looks and feels magical in the snow! ReplyDeleteI totally agree! Christmas goes on for 12 days (even longer at our house!)and we celebrate Epiphany as well. My hubby and I hate it when we go back to work and people ask "How WAS your Christmas?" We always reply "Its great and its still going on!"

Because the Nativity of Our Lord has been so secularized a lot of people don't celebrate the twelve days of Christmas and believe it is all over on 12-25. We always celebrate little Christmas with dinner and small gift giving. It is also part of being Greek Orthodox ......I love your beautiful glasses and place-mats are adorable.Your home is so pretty and festive. Every year my daughter emails the radio station to continue Christmas music after 12-25 and they refuse.Oh well.
