Ruffles, burlap and lace

A couple weeks ago I shared on my facebook page a peek at some slipcovers I had made for my Duncan Phyfe chairs, so I thought I would share them here.

I wanted to make them all different, so I just used lace and fabric I had gotten from my mom. I made four slipcovers then covered the other four chairs with burlap, since I knew the men here would not want to sit on ruffles and lace:-)

I also made a couple pillows out of this denim ticking. I added ruching and some lace trim to this one. The important thing with ruching is to make sure both sides are even when pulling the gathering threads.

I am loving the burlap on the seats of these also. It has a linen look to it and the course texture really balances the ruffles on the other chairs.

To keep it all coordinated, I used burlap on the seat of these four chairs, which I lined with drop cloth fabric, then used different laces and trims for each skirt...all with hints of soft pink and blue.

One thing I love is that the skirts really highlight the iron base of the table. It kind of disappeared on the wood floor.

I am just about finished with this area and we are really loving the vintage feel and the 1950s colors. We still need to add the wormy chestnut baseboards, but need to trim around the french doors first. Too much to do and too little time:-)

Thanks so much for stopping by!!

  6. What a GORGEOUS project, Anita!!! The lines of those chairs are so pretty, and the slipcovers add an amazing touch. I really like the look of the burlap by itself and with the lace skirts, too. I'm in love with those pillows you made; you really are so talented. :)

    Have a wonderful day!

  16. Your dining room looks amazing. I love that you have kept your furniture dark. It is so classic.
We have a Duncan Phyfe set there in Waynesville and I could never bring myself to paint it.
Your seatcovers are gorgeous and I also like the ticking pillows. I just bought ticking wallpaper to hang in our powder room in NC.

  19. First, the pink bowls caught my eye! Lovely! Ah, the slipcovers, how stunning. I love how they all seem to be made of bits and pieces of laces and trims that someone lovingly collected over the years. No bought-off the bolt look about them at all. And no bought from a catalogue look, for sure. It has been such a pleasure watching your home undergo this procession from one beautiful color scheme to another one, revealing that your taste is evolving into these delicious 1950s yummy colors, but 1950 never looked as good as this. I should know as I was there!

Very pretty, Anita. I have some upholstered bar stools that need to have covers, and I've been gathering up ideas on how to do it with fabric scraps I already have. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
