Autumn in the country

The last few days have just been amazing here in the Smoky Mountains. All the sensory elements of fall have come together in the most amazing way -- but only for a short while.

I wanted the outdoor decor to simply reflect where we live here in the country and signify the harvest season.

The last few years, I have taken the hanging ferns off the porch and used them up the front steps. I really like the juxtaposition of green with the warm fall colors --plus, they thrive here. I also used old baskets from the property and instead of pumpkins, which we don't use or grow, I borrowed my mother's candy roasters. She had a bumper crop this year of all different shapes and sizes, and they will be cut, cooked and pureed for pies -- lots of amazing pies:-)

I also used corn stalks my dad grew and tied pretty bows with calico fabric cut with pinking shears into strips.

Just simple, natural and fitting for a small cottage in the country...

...surrounded by nature at its very best.

Ever changing but always spectacular...

...no matter what the season.

Get out and enjoy it while it lasts. It will be gone before you know it:-)

Anita, your property is so beautiful! I can't believe how great your ferns still look! We just took all of our hanging ferns down yesterday; and I am off to get pansies and kale this morning for the back porch. Your gorgeous photos were just the inspiration that I needed.

Beautiful Anita. I love the simple natural way you have decorated your porch. I just posted about fall here in the Blue Ridge Mountains...

  3. So pretty, Anita! If I lived in your house, I think I'd just sit on the porch all day and look around :)

  4. Love it...you have such a beautiful home. I love all the color, wish it lasted longer. Ours is going fast too. Heading out to camp again in my vintage trailer, so I will get to enjoy a little bit more, first hand.

Just pinned this to savor again and again. We just took a drive and saw gorgeous Fall foliage. Your porch steps look fabulous, yes, I love the ferns there mixed with the Fall elements!
