I love everything about autumn -- cool days, clear blue skies and the amazing colors nature offers. I also love getting the house ready for the coming winter. That means bringing out the down comforters, flannel sheets and cozy throws. I started in the master bedroom and added some bold color to the mix this year.
I have used all white bed linens since the 1990s but decided to warm things up with reds and blues. I started with a blue plaid flannel duvet cover I bought several years ago. The down comforters are so warm, I think it could be 5 degrees and these would still keep us warm. All the beds have them in the house.
I added some red pillow covers I made several years ago for the living room and am really loving the punch of color.
I am still so in love with this antique iron bed that I found on the property and restored last year, but I digress:-)
I wanted to use my great grandmother's quilt, and love it on grandmother's trunk.
You can see here how the new mantel adds to the room. We all love the extra texture and dimension it adds.
The room really makes me smile when I walk in, and I always look forward to a cozy, warm bed at the end of a long day:-)

ReplyDeleteIt's the amalgamation of the little things that makes an impact as resounding as this! You're smart to start with an all-white base and add in color from there. Everything looks cozy and warm and wonderful. The doors in your home are just spectacular! The deep color of the wood is so pretty. And that iron bed....wowza!!! What a keeper! I'm sure it's worth all the work you put into its restoration.
