Red and white Thanksgiving

After thinking *way* too much about it, I finally set my Thanksgiving table.

I will be hosting 11 people here Thursday, so I planned to have the adults sit at the table, and our children and my niece at the breakfast bar.
For the adult table, I really wanted to use red apples as an accent, so I decided to go with the Mikasa "Floral Elegance" bone china.

I layered the old chestnut board on top of a paisley runner and filled a soup tureen with floral foam, moss, pine cones, apples and magnolia leaves from my mother's garden. (And yes she caught me as I went over to snip branches from her trees.) I also used two vintage McCoy planters filled with foam, moss and candles, and added some height with the milk glass vases.

You know I love to use silver trays as chargers and they add some sparkle and light to this table with so much dark wood.

I love this pattern from Mikasa, and it really works well with the antique sterling silver pattern, "Louvre" by Wallace from 1893. The butter knives are antique Landers/Frary and Clark. The napkin rings were purchased form Walmart several years ago, and I use them a lot -- here with family heirloom monogrammed napkins. The crystal iced tea glasses are Durand Cristal D'Arques "Longchamp" and part of a set which I started collecting in the 1990s.

I really thought about doing something simple, but Thanksgiving only comes once a year and I will have family here I have not hosted before, so I really wanted to create something pretty for this special occasion.

I still need to make place cards, then I will set the children's places Thursday with Spode Woodland "American Horses." In the meantime, I have *so* much cleaning to do, and we are supposed to get snow tonight. I don't think I have ever seen snow on Thanksgiving here, so this will be a first!

If you missed my mom's tutorial for the most amazing homemade "pumpkin" pie, check it out HERE.

Wishing you all a very blessed and happy Thanksgiving:-)

  10. Anita, it looks beautiful. I really enjoyed your last two posts. I lost my mom this past August. She was known for her pumpkin pie too and also set her table with pretty milk glass, her favorite. I miss her so much but I'm planning on carrying on those traditions. Thanks for sharing your family's traditions. Have a blessed Thanksgiving.

    1. Hi Jill, it is one of a pair, male and female that was brought back from China by a relative who lived there in the 1940s. I have not been able to find out much about them, though. Thanks, I am loving plaid too:-)
