The pink typewriter

Don't you just love it? I do. In my search for 1950s pink and blue, I remembered my dad had this tucked away in the attic. From 1956, this Royal typewriter is actually what I typed several college term papers on in the late 1980s. My kids went crazy over this, and my dad had to bring another one for them to type on. They loved the instant gratification of seeing something they typed right in front of them. Imagine that.

I placed it in my china cabinet that still has no doors, and has not yet housed any china. I am still enjoying the country store feel it has and love displaying vintage things I find around here.

Since the cabinet is a combination of very dark walnut and wormy chestnut, I *almost* painted the back inside of the shelves, then I came across some pink, floral paper in my parents' basement, which I knew would give the cabinet the perfect vintage touch. Oh how I love it:-)

Some of my vintage items include Hazel Atlas Pink Crinoline cups and saucers, my grandfather's books, his folding measuring stick, and the large bell he rang as a school teacher to call the children in. My great grandmother's cruet set is flanked by aluminum trays my dad made in the 1950s, and a lamp that belonged to my grandmother. The vintage needlepoint below was done by a family friend.

I have been lucky to find a lot of vintage treasures right here, well... next door actually, and knowing they are all connected to my family in some way makes them more special to me.

I'm happy the typewriter has found a new home for now. Lots more vintage things have found their way into my new blue kitchen and living area. Can't wait to show those rooms!

Thanks so much for stopping by, and for leaving comments:-) I would love it if you join me on my Far Above Rubies facebook page, link at right.

    So wonderful this pink typewriter!

I once had a orange one and now it's gone - away!

    Greetings from Germany!

  4. Just found your wonderful blog. I adore the pink typewriter and I love the way you have decorated the hutch-you don't need dishes in there. I used a royal typewriter when I first went to work after high school. Can you imagine a day without white-out and eraser tape--you really don't want too. I would although love to have one like this pink one.
    Have a special week.

  5. That is the prettiest typewriter I have ever seen (and I am not really a 'pink' girl). Wish I typed on that when I was learning - mine was an ugly grey color. xo

  9. Love the pink typewriter. I had a similar 'portable' one but it was gray with green keys. I loved typing on it and it was great when I took a typing course at college. Many and essay or report was typed on it for a few years. Your 'china' hutch is sweet with all your vintage memorabilia. The pink cups and saucers with the ruffled edge are adorable! I love the new look and can't wait to see your kitchen. Blessings, Pamela

  10. Admittedly I'm not a fan of pink, but this is divine. Your corner cabinet is about the most wonderful display of treasures I've ever seen. I could soak that in for hours. Shared your post on my FB page (Once Upon a Firefly).

  12. That typewriter is magnificent!!! I just love that whole vignette. Those crinoline cups make me want to dance! You have such an eye for detail, but the best part is the memories connected with each piece. Perfection!!!

Anita just lovely and so beautiful!!!!I typed many papers back in the day on a standard typewriter.....I think among the pink ruffle cups and milk looking glass saucers it is stunning. You have shown such respect and care not only for these things, but people they represent.I am so happy you have such a wonderful, growing collection.

I typed my college papers on a typewriter in the 80's, too! Something my kids can't quite comprehend! ha! But mine was not as cute or cool as yours!!! I love that pink! And your cabinet has some other great pieces and treasures, too! :)

  18. I just love this whole vignette, Anita! I love the way the vintage dishes were meant to go with that pink typewriter. I would love to find something like that. You have made me wonder if my old blue one is still stored somewhere at my mom's house. Long ago and far away, I fancied myself a writer.

Love your pink typewriter. Love it! I can't believe I learned to type on a typewriter...can't imagine doing that now. No spellcheck or auto correction....plus, you had to have strong fingers!
