In the pink for Fall...

After nine posts about making and installing wood countertops, I thought you might like a break:-)

So I'm sharing a little fall decorating on my buffet. I filled a box I made from a newell post out of the old house with hydrangeas and added my grandfather's books, deer antlers, old music, the "lady" lamp my grandmother painted, pumpkins, pinecones and turkey feathers...all from right here on the property.

I opened this North Carolina history book from 1902 and the children have really enjoyed looking at it.

You all know I love my bottle lamps. I made this one last year out of an old vinegar bottle from my grandfather's store then covered the shade with burlap. The leaves are just sheet music, burlap and an old button. Last year I filled it with sea shells for summer then acorns, etc., for fall but decided to leave it empty this year. I really like it clear. I did apply for the Lamps Plus/Hometalk lamp challenge that I have seen so many doing, but wasn't chosen to participate. Anyhoooo, I really didn't need another lamp as I have about 10 of these old bottles, lol.

The window is out of the old house and the oil pastel is by artist Louis Rowell in 1916. He stayed here in the mountains and left this for my great grandmother as it is the view from the front window of her house, which has been restored and is on the National Historic Register.

Everything is a family heirloom including the antique silk fabric brought from China by a relative in the 1940s. The buffet also belonged to her. Only the lampshade and pumpkins are new.

I do love fall and everything that comes with it. I have so many wonderful childhood memories of school starting, fall festivals, cool nights and crisp mornings. It's kind of all about family... and you know how I love that:-)

  13. And as usual, Debbie comes and leaves totally delighted.
I have to mention the beautiful piece it's all sitting on, too. I love that. I'm actually planning to try and strip down the "new" finish of some of my 80s oak to try to give them the look of the really beautiful stuff.

Gorgeous! Love the pink with the burlap. Is the weather getting cooler where you are? It's still hot here and I've had to plant my cool veggies twice already.

Beautiful vignette, Anita! I love hearing all the history of your family homestead and all the wonderful things you have kept in the family. Love the pink tones on the hydrangeas. We have some mini limelights that are turning pink now too. I have never had them before. XO, Pinky

Way to think outside of the box! The way you layered the items on the wall, with the gorgeous antlers, is very striking. Love that!

Anita that is simple the most beautiful fall vignette I have seen and all the family heirlooms with the history made it fabulous. You certainly have a gift for creating a truely charming home. I loved my visit here today.
