Before and after of the antique chest

I painted five pieces of furniture in the girls' room, plus all the art and mirrors, so I've been sharing pieces one at a time instead of one super long post.

Today I wanted to show you the before of this chest.

This was passed down to me from my great Aunt Frances along with a matching four poster bed. I was using it in my son's room, but decided since it had seen better days, it would be great painted. This is what it looked like. I had obviously already sanded one of the drawers and taken off some of the hardware before I remembered to take a photo.

It was pretty bad.

I sanded it all down, then painted with white Rustoleum spray paint to coat the whole thing first. I then rolled on white latex paint over the whole piece.
I came back with a brush and painted the grey I used on the walls, "Persian Seed Pearl" into the design.

After that dried, I brushed silver metallic craft paint into the grooves and wiped it off with a wet cloth.
I then sanded around all the edges for a little distressing then applied clear paste wax to the white parts, and dark wax to the grey sections. I spray painted the hardware with Rustoleum Metallic silver.

I painted and distressed a couple pieces from the old house to hang above the chest, and also painted some old candlesticks. I started with a coat of flat black spray paint, then dry brushed on silver metallic craft paint.

I love how it all came together.

The paint really brought out the design in the wood and I'm sure my Aunt Frances would approve:-)

I used what I had and I'm very happy with the results.
 Thanks for stopping by:-)
