Today I am joining several other bloggers as part of A Merry Little Christmas Blog Hop, hosted by Pamela at From My Front Porch to Yours, so as soon as you are finished here, you need to head on over and see the other talented ladies who will be sharing lots of inspiration and ideas for you!
Today I'm sharing my music room, which also serves as our entry. If you' have been by here before, you know I love vintage and antiques with a little bohemian chic thrown in here and there. The music room seemed to have turned out pretty traditional, though, this year.
I inherited this pump organ, and I really do love the beautifully carved wood. The kids like to play it, but I usually have it closed. I use fresh greenery everywhere, so I draped some across the antique print that belonged to my grandmother. The Christmas carol books were a recent gift from my friend Bonnie.
The antique Harden Mission-style settle was gifted back to me last year for my birthday by a sweet neighbor, and had originally been in my great grandfather's house here.
I have mixed and matched Turkish kilim pillows in bold colors with burlap for a more eclectic look.
I layered two Turkish rugs, the white one recently supplied by Unique Rug Store in Istanbul. I love the tribal pattern of this rug, and the neutral color will go with anything and never go out of style.
A piece of inherited antique Chinese silk makes a colorful runner on the piano. I found the pink poinsettias at our local Food Lion, and couldn't pass them up since I had never had a pink one.
Every year I dig up hemlocks from the woods here, and one always ends up in this galvanized bucket on an old stool from my grandmother's picnic table set. This could be my favorite little tree all decked out with things my grandmother would have used from vintage Shiny Brites and popcorn, to sheet music snow flakes and fans.
I also have cinnamon ornaments my kids made in preschool...
...and the tree is topped with a star my youngest made in school.
Behind the piano is the cabinet Luis made out of an old walnut tree my dad cut and pieces of wormy chestnut trim from my great grandfather's house here.
I actually left everything in here as it was for fall but stuck fresh cedar, white pine and magnolia leaves in for a winter touch.
Fresh greenery is such a simple thing to add, but it really brings in the Christmas feel in an easy and organic way.
I utilized the stash of vintage candles my mom found, and love this green twist candle. It reminds me of my 1970s childhood:-) The Indian brass incense burner is inherited from my dad's cousin who lived in China and traveled to India.
Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus are part of a set my Aunt Jody gave me, and I thought they were an appropriate addition on the brass tray.
I found the deer skull in Montana, and just wanted another organic and unexpected element.
I do love this space, and it gets lots of use these days as the two younger kids are finally taking piano lessons. I *love* hearing them practice and seeing their progress. It's really nice to hear them working on some Christmas carols too this time of year.
I am so happy you came by for a visit today:-) Now, you need to go by and visit all these other talented ladies for more inspiring Christmas ideas.

Yes, Mary Alice, it is great to have the woods here, but I somehow brought a tick in with me this weekend, so there are hazards, lol!!
DeleteYour holiday tours are always such a treat ... and, I absolutely love how almost every piece has family ties, whether it's your parents, grandparents or cousins!
