Magnolia in the winter living room

Happy New Year -- ok I'm a bit late but it's still a new year and a great time for a fresh start. First, I LOVE winter, the cold, dark nights, and the coziness our home has this time of year. You won't see me rushing ahead to spring.

I put my couch back in the corner and wanted a plant behind it, but didn't like any of the options I had as they all looked too "springy." Then, I remembered the winter storm we had before Christmas had wreaked havoc on my mother's magnolia trees, so I went over and grabbed some of the branches and placed them in wet floral foam in an antique basket.

And that was exactly what I wanted for this corner. It still has a winter feel and should last a good, long while.

I just added some of my grandfather's books and kept things pretty simple.

I'm not sure why I never thought about this before, but I'm sure I'll do it again, and hope my mother does not catch me clipping her trees!!

I always love getting to rearrange things after Christmas, because, let's face it, any opportunity to rearrange and get a whole new look is a good one in my book😉

It looks lovely. I love to see someone that is not afraid to use color in their homes. This room is like a. Jewel box. Beautiful.

  3. Beautiful, as always. We have a couple of "volunteer" magnolias near the woods, I might try something similar to what you did. Thanks!

  8. Such a pretty room, Anita. Isn't it funny how just 'any old green plant' won't do when you are looking at a particular spot. Hope Mom doesn't find out!!! lol xo Diana
