Fall at the Boarding House

I wanted to share what I did outside the Boarding House at Balsam Mountain Preserve before October is over!

I like to go with something different every year here, and this year I had a vision to go with all orange.

I doubted that vision a few times, but when I saw it come together, I loved everything about it.

I did add some rich fall color into the bows, but orange is the star of this show.

I make these bows every year with different fabric, and they really are my signature on the fall decor here.

I rip strips of fabric then put them all together with burlap and raffia for a fun and unique homespun, mountain look.

I chose orange mums, then found two that also had red mixed with the orange, so I snuck that color in as well.

So far, we have not had to deal with bears or squirrels tearing everything up to get to the corn and pumpkins.

I really love how it turned out.

It's pretty, but not too over the top.

Now that the leaves are really turning, I need to get up there and show y'all the rest of my work so we can move on to Thanksgiving!

Make sure to follow on instagram to see what I'm up to daily, as well as behind the scenes😉

I'll be joining:

  1. I think orange was the perfect color to provide a continuation of the orangey glow from the lights inside as well as the yellow-orange color of the inside of the open doors. It's as though the decor and its color draws you from the outside in. Once again, just amazing.

    1. Thanks so much Pat!! Yes, there is very much an orange-kind of glow there, and I really never thought of it consciously until you mentioned it!!

  • I absolutely love this whole look! The cornstalks, the ribbons, flowers...wow just really makes it a fall like no one else has! The boarding house couldn’t have been a more perfect setting for this! I haven’t been a follower very long and don’t know anything about your boarding house but I intend to do some reading now! Beautifully done! I’d love to see a tutorial on how you make the ribbons.

I love the way you have decorated your front porch and door area. Your ribbons tie all of the colors of the pumpkins, corn stalks, and mums together. Your entry is aglow with Fall!

    1. Thanks Susie, but it's not my porch, but as I stated above, one I designed at the Boarding House at Balsam Mountain Preserve:-)
