If you follow me on facebook, or at whispering.pines.homestead on instagram, then you'll know all about my sofa saga. Once I figured out the rescue couch needed to go to my mother's in order to have
space for my mantel, I knew I needed a replacement. I wanted an antique, preferably Duncan Phyfe, or something similar -- and in the $200 range. Ha. Right? I had found on facebook marketplace an amazing red velvet Empire Victorian sofa near Clemson, S.C., but the owner waited for days to return my emails, texts and messages and in the meantime, sold it days after I contacted her.
But that was all meant to be.
Because I found this one💝
I contacted the seller, and she told me she was selling it for her aunt, then she gave me her aunt's number. When I called, the aunt asked what time I could come and mentioned she had to go to church for something that afternoon. Out of curiosity, because I'm a choir director/pianist at a church in the same area, I asked her what church, and when she told me, I mentioned she should know a friend of ours. She then said, "I guess so. I've been married to him for years!"
When I found out I was talking to someone I knew, I felt immediately like this was the sofa for me. Even at $375, I thought it was still a bargain for a well-cared-for antique, and knowing it was from a clean home, and had been well taken care of was important to me as well.
Luis and I jumped in my dad's truck with Cristian and headed over to look. Immediately, I knew it was perfect, so we loaded it up and brought it home. Now, I wish I had video of us getting my huge sofa out of our house and into my mother's house with my dad's John Deere and a trailer, but I don't. It was definitely America's Funniest Home Videos level funny. In any case, we got our sofa there, and this one in our house.
I could not be happier!! It is an antique and has original springs and down cushions.
What are the chances of finding one that didn't need reupholstering or cleaning? It had been reupholstered years ago by the same upholsterer I use, and they do a fabulous job.
It's just perfect for my living room and our friends can rest assured that it is in a good home😊
They collect beautiful antiques so it made me happy to give this one some love.
I knew I wanted it to go in this spot across from the new mantel, and it's just perfect.
The other one was really too large, and my mother loves it in her house, so it's a win, win for everybody!!
I kept with the orange/rusts and red for fall and again could not be happier with how it all looks together, and how cozy this room is.
I put the barley twist chairs in front of these windows with my great grandmother's table.
I'm so in love with my new living room!
It really has the Victorian parlor feel my grandmother had here in the old house.
And I have a feeling she would love this room.
I'll be joining:
Inspire Me Tuesday
How could she help but love it!!!! It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mother!!
DeleteThat's an amazing sofa and it looks beautiful in your room. I love the paisley touches in the room! I think this is my favorite of all the looks you've had in here, it's elegant and chic while obviously cozy. I still can't believe your new fireplace! I keep picturing my husband coming home from work and me saying, Look, honey, I built a fireplace today. He would faint away.
ReplyDeleteTrust me, Dewena, he did!! He still cannot believe it!
