I know I'm not the first one to say this, but this year seems to have flown by at warp speed.

Country Christmas porch
I like for my home to reflect where it is and the culture around it, so naturally, we have a country Christmas porch here in the North Carolina mountains.

Christmas music room
The music "room" in our home also serves as the front entry. It used to be the dining area, but because it got high traffic, I ended up putting the piano there and moving the dining area to the living area, which was long enough to accommodate it. It has worked much better this way, and I enjoy having the piano in a more open spot.

Christmas Living and a quirky tree
Thanks so much for the comments you all have left:-) They really make my day and confirm that we can make do with what we have, and still have something pretty, which is what this blog is all about.
Today, I'm sharing the living area and my quirky tree...

Christmas Dining
Things are a little more subdued in my dining area as opposed to the merry and bright kitchen I showed you yesterday:-)

Merry Christmas farmhouse Kitchen
I don't know what it is this year, but it sure seems Christmas is creeping up -- at warp speed, so I need to share my Christmas posts before it's too late!
Our kitchen definitely has a different look this Christmas thanks to the fabric I used for curtains and the sink skirt. It's merry, bright, kid friendly and we are loving it:-)

Vintage Christmas bedroom
Since I started my Christmas decor with the bedroom mantel earlier this week, I thought I would go ahead and show you the rest of the master bedroom.

DIY Countertop Board at Hometalk
I know most of us are in the midst of Christmas decorating, but I had the opportunity to curate a board over at Hometalk with DIY budget countertop ideas, so I wanted to share it with you all here.
There are some really great options for DIY countertops, including my own wormy chestnut countertops, so click HERE to see the board.

Finally -- Mother's famous candy roaster pie with grandmother's perfect crust!
I have been promising the candy roaster (alternative to pumpkin) pie recipe for months on my facebook page, and I was finally able to catch my mom in the pie-making process:-) Here is the recipe along with directions for my grandmother's perfect crust just in time for Thanksgiving and the holiday season ahead.

Cozying up with my Yahyali
I always love "warming" up the house in the fall, but this year we seem to have totally bypassed fall and gone straight to the dead of winter. It was 15º this morning and the high will only get to 26º. The low is normally higher than that at 35º so it's a chilly one here.
Since we only have a heat pump and an uninsulated crawl space, the house can get cold. Plus, I'm so economical I keep the thermostat at 68 or below.

In honor of veterans
Luis and I are so thankful for all who have served this great nation, as well as the families and friends who have supported them. For Veteran's Day, we put together this video to tell the stories of those left behind.
We are the land of the free because of the brave...

Thanksgiving inspiration...
If there is anything that I am "known" for on pinterest, it would be my Thanksgiving table settings -- mostly ones with the box. As I plan this year's table, I always like to look back on years past for inspiration.

Giving thanks
Thanksgiving. It's a word that conjures up all kinds of images from my childhood -- pilgrims, Indians, corn, the Mayflower -- you name it. I have always loved it.

Autumn in the country
The last few days have just been amazing here in the Smoky Mountains. All the sensory elements of fall have come together in the most amazing way -- but only for a short while.
