Wild black raspberries

I noticed my parents outside near the creek picking berries this afternoon...

...luscious black raspberries! These are growing right over the old building that housed the old hog trough behind our chicken coop.

Black raspberries are really healthy and have been known to help in fighting different kinds of cancers. I *helped* them pick these, and I can tell you they are so sweet and delicious.

Of course, they need to be washed...as you can see by the little bug that came in with these in the middle right of the photo...

Hoping my mom gets enough to make some jam, but for now, we are eating these just like they are!

Oh, the joy of living in the country:-)

  2. Summer!!! Heralds the arrival of berries. Master Vic and I walk by a bunch on our afternoon walks. He luvs them so we pause and help ourselves to a few (or plenty). YUM!! I can taste the sunshine. To me the wild ones taste so much better than the store bought . No?
    Happy Tuesday.

  3. I just found black raspberries growing along the side of my house. What a surprise! I think a little birdie may have dropped a few seeds! Can't wait to get enough to pick! Making jam sounds wonderful!

  4. Hi Anita,

These look delish (and pretty too). Last summer, the inn where we stay every year in Robbinsville, NC, had wild blackberries, and they served them in stuffed french toast. Oh wow, it was fantastic. Hubby and I saw some growing along the roadside on the Cherohala Skyway; they're such a pretty color.

Enjoy your Fourth of July weekend!
