Red and green Christmas bedroom

Christmas is just over a week away, so I wanted to share my bedroom all ready for a cozy, winter holiday -- or what I really need -- a *long* winter's nap😭😊

Farmhouse Christmas Porch

Hello everyone! I meant to have this post up sooner, but the winter storm last weekend knocked out power from Saturday night until Tuesday night and took out many trees and shrubs around the house -- not to mention the destruction all over the community here. In fact, there were tree limbs coming through the rails on the porch so we had to cut them back until we can take care of the debris, but I went ahead and shot a few photos to share.

An English Christmas

Well hello everyone! I'm so excited to start the season off with a tablescape, which y'all know is what I originally started blogging, and something I love to create. I'm equally happy to be joining 24 other bloggers on the 25 Christmas Ideas tour that Angie at Postcards from the Ridge has put together including lots of great ideas for your Christmas decorating. There will be links at the end so you can visit everyone.

I love to set a pretty table, and Christmas could not be a more perfect opportunity to get all the pretty things out.

If you're coming over from visiting Laura at Meaningful Spaces, welcome, and a big thank you to Tammy At Pink Peppermint Design for hosting and putting this tour together.

Simple farmhouse fall porch

Simple. I didn't go all out with corn stalks or mums and pumpkins like I usually do, but just added a few fall touches to the front porch.

**The** most unique candle idea I've seen...

Y'all know how much I love the right candle, and I'm super picky about them, so you will understand how excited I was to find one of my childhood friends selling some very unique candles at Illuminations Vintage.
When I saw that she pours them into vintage containers, I *had* to try one, and picked up my first one over the weekend.

Fall in the mountains

There is something special about fall in the mountains, even when it's late. And nowhere is autumn more beautiful than Balsam Mountain Preserve. Here are more of the outdoor areas I got to add my touch to -- starting with the main entrance.

Fall at the Boarding House

Wow, it just seems like summer wanted to hold on forever here in the mountains, which is so unusual, but finally things are cooling down enough to give us true fall-like weather.
As I've done the last two years, I got to add some fall magic throughout Balsam Mountain Preserve, so I thought I'd show y'all the Boarding House first.

Autumn Leaves

I never use faux flowers anymore. I just don't, and I prefer to cut anything from outside no matter what kind of weed it is😉 This time of year I always gather sourwood branches because they stay nice for several weeks in water and have the most gorgeous color, but I could not find enough for my fall tour, and the dogwood branches I used, didn't last long.

Bold, eclectic Fall Tour

As excited as I am to share my home tour, I cannot go without first expressing my concern for our beautiful state and those impacted by Hurricane Florence. My heart goes out to everyone in the path, and I just hope there is minimal damage and that people are prepared and have taken the necessary steps to stay safe. We expect flooding, high winds and mudslides here in the mountains over the weekend, and we hope the large trees here in the woods around the house stay upright!

Summer back porch

It seems like Fall is just around the corner, so I thought I better share our outdoor spaces before it's too late.

The Sofa

Back in the spring, I saw this sofa in a historic building some friends own, which is for sale. It looked like it needed a loving home, and because I was totally smitten with the curvy shape and down filled cushion, I offered to make a trade, selling my french sofa.

Franciscan Ivy on the back porch

It has taken a lot longer to get the porches in summer shape this year, but now that the hard work is done, I have certainly been enjoying them every morning. I honestly cannot wait to wake up, grab a cup of coffee and head out on the porch to listen to the birds and creek.

I'm excited to be part of this wonderful group of bloggers that Marty has put together for her 2018 Summer Home Tours. If you are stopping by from Starfish Cottage, you'll already know just how talented all these ladies are. I'm humbled to be among them.

And the rest of the kitchen...

So I shared a couple weeks ago the cabinetry I painted and wanted to show the rest of this side as well, since it was also updated a little.

A little drama in the dining room

I always say when you have been thinking about doing something for a while, you might as well go ahead and do it. Especially if it's something reversible and low cost.

Brightening up the kitchen

I should start out by saying I've never been a fan of white cabinets for my home. I'm just not. I know that's the trend (as in everyone is doing it), and they look pretty in other people's homes, but it's not been something I wanted. I love rich, dark wood with texture and love the warmth it provides.

Groovy, global spring home tour

Yes. I went there -- groovy, ha!  I've been seriously nostalgic about my 1970s childhood lately and felt like bringing some of the warmth I remember into my home this spring, and Marty's tour was just the perfect opportunity to share that with you all. If you're coming from Alicia's beautifully serene home at Thrifty and Chic, I'm so happy to have you here. Just be prepared for a color shock😉

I always enjoy the opportunity to create something for Balsam Mountain Preserve, and during the winter, trying to be creative keeps me on my toes.

Hygge and my favorite candles ever

Hygge (apparently pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah like we all thought) is a Danish concept that has been everywhere for a while, and as I am always late with everything, I thought it was about time to share with y'all my interpretation.
