Earl Grey Day...

It is one of those days...

Gloomy, rainy, foggy. My favorite kind of day:-)

The perfect day for a steaming cup of Earl Grey and my grandfather's book of Shakespeare.

It reminds me so much of England. I would be perfectly happy there living in an old, dark, castle.

Really. There is just something about them that I love.

I am a "Knight" after all, so my ancestry reaches back to Merrie Olde England through my grandfather, George Knight. Such a gentleman, he was a teacher, well-read and so kind.

These days I enjoy reflecting and imagining him being here on the land we now live. Thankful I can pass that heritage on to my own children.

Now to enjoy his book of Shakespeare's Complete Works, given to him in 1911...

SONNET 55

Not marble, nor the gilded monuments
Of princes, shall outlive this powerful rhyme;
But you shall shine more bright in these contents
Than unswept stone besmear'd with time.
When wasteful war shall statues overturn,
And broils root out the work of masonry,
Nor Mars his sword nor war's quick fire shall burn
The living record of your memory.
'Gainst death and all-oblivious enmity
Shall you pace forth; your praise shall still find room
Even in the eyes of all posterity
That wear this world out to the ending doom.
So, till the judgment that yourself arise,
You live in this, and dwell in lovers' eyes.

--William Shakespeare

  2. I wish I lived nearby to join you for a tea party, 'specially if there is a scone or two involved. I love gray rainy days once in a while, it is like that up here today, as well. Enjoy the rest of the weekend. xo

  3. That's so neat that you know so much of your family history like that. That probably does explain why you like castles so much! Drinking hot tea and reading a good book sound perfect for that kind of weather too.

  8. I love this. I don't think I've mentioned on my blog what a huge Shakespeare lover I am. I imagine myself to be quite the sonnet reader, too.

I'm not fond of the dreary days or even of the castles (that much...) but I'm right there with you in a way. I dream of living in the quiet English countryside. I guess that would make me one of your serfs. Grin.
