Welcoming Autumn alfresco

Oh the joy of autumn in the North Carolina mountains! I always look forward to the transition from hazy summer days to clear, Carolina blue skies, vibrant color and crisp, cool nights.
It's the perfect time to get back out on the porch, as the noon day sun that has beat down on our table all summer, finally shifts and is filtered by the changing leaves.

I am excited to be back on the porch with a vibrant fall tablescape, and I'm sharing with these other talented ladies in a blog hop hosted by Pamela at From My Front Porch to Yours.

Autumn is crazy colorful here, so I'm embracing that and taking it as far outside the box as I can. People tend to think of Fall in shades of orange, rust, yellow and red, but there are tons of purples and even deep pinks scattered throughout the landscape this time of year.

I started by layering my table with vintage silk sarees. These are so versatile, and since
I bought my first one last spring, I have used them all over the house.

Since the linens are so colorful, I opted for creamware plates with my Wedgwood "Queen's Plain."

For texture, I added square, jute placemats I found at Walmart for about $2.78. The square shape saves space on the table, which is wonderful if you want to add more place settings.

I simply plopped a pumpkin in the center, then gathered some flowers from my mother's garden and arranged them in iridescent Carnival glass pedestal bowls.

I covered the benches with Turkish kilim rugs, which add to the texture, and make the benches more comfy.

I accented each place setting with mini pumpkins and simply tucked sedum into each one.

To play against the rustic textures, I used antique sterling flatware in the "Louvre" pattern by Wallace, and iridescent glassware I picked up at World Market about 10 years ago.

The fuchsia napkins were an ebay find, and the bamboo napkin rings add yet more rustic texture to the table.

I love the mixture of traditional with a little Bohemian chic flair thrown in.

...and the colors -- I just love the combination of bright pinks, oranges and golds.

It is what Autumn is to me -- colorful, warm and bright.

And it won't be long until all the leaves show their color as well --

But Autumn is fleeting so you have to enjoy and embrace every moment before it's gone, and that I will:-)

Thank you so much for stopping by, and thanks to Pamela for hosting! Make sure you go by and visit these ladies below for more Fall inspiration.

  5. You're right, there is deep pinks, if not purples with the usual Fall colors and I agree with Mary Alice's comment 100%! Kathleen in Az

I love when you set a table out here as it SO reminds me of our deck at the old house. We had the exact same view with all the trees. Your vibrant colors are gorgeous!!! I love that you thought outside the box!
